Best Mountain Biking Trails in the Presumpscot River Watershed

  • Frazier Preserve and the town and private trails that it connects to in Gorham represent the most popular spot for mountain biking in the region. Miles of trails in this network include slopes, structures, banked turns, and obstacles built by and for mountain bikers. Visit the Gorham Conservation Commission’s website for maps and descriptions of the town trails.

  • The Sebago to the Sea Trail, the 28-mile trail connecting Sebago Lake and the East End Beach in Portland, has something for every type of rider. Paved rail trail through Windham and Gorham is a great way to cover some distance while taking in scenery of the river and rural surroundings. Miles of dirt woods trails on either end of the route in Portland and Standish offer a challenging and adventurous option against a dramatic natural backdrop.

  • Lowell Preserve in Windham, which is owned by the Town and conserved by our Land Trust, offers a diverse 5-mile trail network with many possible routes of different terrain and difficulty. Two new mountain-bike-only trails, plus a multi-use trail with a handful of one-way mountain-bike-only features, will be coming online in summer 2026.

PRLT is grateful to partner with the Greater Portland chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (GPNEMBA) for maintenance and improvement on our mountain bike trails. GPNEMBA maintains robust maps of all area trails on Trailforks.
