Why are we letting thIS meadow grow wild and only be mowed every three years?

Mowing every three years helps to maintain an area as meadow habitat, preventing it from becoming overrun by either woody trees or invasive plants. This is the best way to simulate natural processes like grazing. The three year time frame gives native wildflowers time to seed and mature and also supports ground-nesting birds and a host of insect species. Meadow habitat is threatened throughout our region by development and conversion to lawns, so PRLT works to conserve and maintain meadows wherever possible.
