Conserve Gorham Community Forest

53 acres, in Downtown Gorham,

connecting community to the outdoors

ACCESS

Conserving this land not only protects vital natural resources—it also enhances community well-being by offering space for outdoor recreation, environmental education, and a deeper connection with nature. This property presents a rare opportunity to expand Gorham’s network of publicly accessible trails. PRLT envisions a trail system that serves both residents and visitors, with a trailhead and parking located conveniently behind Village School off New Portland Road. This central location provides easy access for the public and supports our mission to connect people to the natural beauty of our region while promoting health and outdoor learning.

CONSERVE

This project will permanently conserve 53 acres of forest and wetland, featuring frontage along Indian Camp Brook and located within easy reach of downtown Gorham. It will establish accessible conservation land that serves the growing population of downtown Gorham, creating lasting benefits for both people and nature.

WILDLIFE

The conservation area includes frontage along Indian Camp Brook, which flows into the Stroudwater River. Protecting this continuous block of forest and forested wetland will help improve water quality and support habitat for birds, amphibians, and other wildlife. The site includes a mixed hardwood forest, a variety of fern species, forest meadow plants, and other important native flora.
