Meet at 10:00 am at the kiosk Led by PRLT Steward Donald Wescott and local historian, Maurice Whitten

Come learn about the rich history of the PRLT-owned Gambo property. Original stone foundations of the long-gone Oriental Powder Mill still remain. Learn about the Cumberland & Oxford Canal & Towpath also located on this property- and also rich with history. A great opportunity to learn from the area historians and enjoy a lovely walk.

(There is also room for a few cars at the start of the walking bridge at the end of Gambo Road.) Once parked, walk back down to Gambo Road and take a right to go towards and over the bridge. Group will meet at the kiosk. *You can also access the Gambo Property from Shaw Park.

* Directions to Shaw Park- Travel Route 237 in Gorham approximately 2 miles going north past the intersection of Route 237 and Route 202. Then take a right into Shaw Park. Once parked at Shaw Park, follow the Presumpscot River Trail to the area where the Gambo Property kiosk is.

Please note: we've received requests for PRLT to lead a guided walk on our Rhododendron Property under conservation easement this year to see the flowers blooms! Reminder- the PRLT has 2 properties under easement that feature a rare and unusual rhododendron for the state of Maine, Rhododendron Maximus. Stunning properties—we were looking forward to guiding a walk out there. However, as with the strange weather of late, the rhododendrons did not bloom this year. They are still looking healthy and strong- but no blooms. So- we'll wait until next year…in July 2011.
