Trails to Avoid the Crowds

  • Nelson Preserve in Gorham was opened in 2019 and offers a peaceful and beautiful 2 mile loop trail through flat terrain dotted with berry patches and old oaks.

  • The Willow Drive trailhead of the Mill Brook Preserve, though least used, offers some of the most beautiful scenery of the whole trail as you descend towards the brook. Parking on Willow Drive is easy, and you may find that you have this section of the trail all to yourself.

  • Mill Brook Preserve South has ample paved parking, a 1.5 mile loop trail that is over easier terrain than Mill Brook Preserve in the north, and sees fewer visitors than most other Preserves. Look for the brown and white hiker sign at the bottom of the “Millbrook Estates” apartment building on East Bridge Street.

  • Chessey Preserve in Sebago is a relatively short out-and-back trail, and the visual treat at the end is well woth the journey. Enjoy the panorama of idyllic Browns Pond and the forest surrounding it. If you are up for an adventure, you can carry in a small kayak or canoe and go for a paddle on the pond.
